It is certainly true that I believe in supernatural powers. I believe everything is possible in this world. Here, I do remember an incident from my own life. It was the time when I was in a hostel, and was completing my Fashion design course over there. The room I was allotted was room number 51. I also had two other roommates. One was Nandini Bhalla and the other was Shalini Jain. Nandini Bhalla was a fun-loving girl and mysterious too.
One day she told that she could call the spirits. Even though I denied accepting that it was possible, still for the friendship`s sake, had to admit whatever she said me to do. It was a famous rumour that our hostel was made up on the land of the graveyard. We used to enjoy ourselves a lot whenever we had time. Still, some mysterious things always happened at midnight. Sometimes we used to hear strange voices and the voice of someone walking in the corridor. It was not allowed for any girl to wake up after 10 P.M. So it was too difficult to assume that any girl could be there. Still, we assumed only this and never dared to watch outsides our rooms and we always thought some seniors had dared to break the rules. One day Nandini the mysterious girl told me that she could call the spirits. So she told us to keep our fingers on the small inverse bowl. We made two circles with white chalk on the room floor and wrote the alphabet and counted on them. We put the small steel bowl amid the circles and on the inverted bowl, we kept our fingers. It was the time 7 in the evening when we started that dangerous game. I would call it dangerous because after that lots of things changed in my life or I came to know about some inauspicious future events going to happen in my life. As girls from the neighbouring rooms too came and wanted to become a part of the game. Nandini started uttering the words:“ Holy Spirits please come, please come’’.
Here I was enchanting the Gaytri mantra at my heart because I had heard that evil spirits never come when we enchant the Gaytri mantra. I was sure that no soul or supernatural power would come, but I was wrong. That mysterious girl proved that she could call the Para-natural spirits too. After 15 minutes that bowl began to move, here I would like to clarify that the force I felt in that inverted bowl was strange. And it was moving as if some big insect has entered inside. Now it was a game for other girls, but I and Shalini knew that something is there. We could not even remove the finger as we were told not to do so; otherwise, the spirit will enter our bodies. Our dinner timings were 8 to 9 P.M and I was hungry too. After asking so many questions, we pleaded with the spirit to go. The force was still there in the bowl. According to Nandini spirits go with their wish, so we had to keep our tummies empty that night. Well, it was another bad thing as my hungry tummy could not sleep that night. I asked two questions, one was: “When I would get married and another was, “Would I get a pass in the examination of Fashion designing or not?’’ And the girl, who never failed, got the answer that she would get failed in the examination. Yes, that girl was me. And in the coming months, it proved right too.
At last, nearly midnight that force vanished and till that time all girls were gone and only we three were left. Here one noticeable thing was that Nandini`s eyes were looking too strange and the colour of her eyes was a bit changed during that point in time. That night I could not sleep and the failures of my life started from that point in time. I heard vessels jumping in the corridor and didn’t know about Shalini and Nandini as Nandini had a sound sleep and for Shalini, it was not strange as she told me many stories of her village in M.P. That is how she had seen candles flying in the sky many times in her village as in that area people normally attack each other with supernatural powers. From that midnight, I heard lots of noises in the hostel room, till I completed my course. And Nandini and Shalini and even other girls never heard those sounds in the corridor. That’s why room number fifty-one is still dreadfully alive in my life.
